CURRICULUM DEVELOPER TRAINING COURSEs

Role: Project Manager, Designer, Developer

Tools: Articulate Rise, Canvas, Adobe Illustrator

Process: After completing the creation of a new quality assurance process for our school, our team was tasked with creating a training course for all course developers: subject matter experts, quality assurance experts, graphic designers, department chairs, and more. The training course was intended to accomplish two primary goals. First, train all developers on the new quality assurance standards. Second, to centralize and standardize training in order to reduce training time and the time department chairs spent directly training developers.

I collaborated with two members of my team to collect all existing training materials used at our school. Once collected, we cross-referenced training materials, removed old items, and integrated the remaining materials into our outline. The central challenge to this course was to design a course that was comprehensive but not burdensome.

The secondary goal with this training course was to display the high level of quality that was possible through creating content with Articulate Rise. Our team was midway through migrating all courses into Rise. This transition greatly improved the look and interactivity of our curriculum, but some developers didn’t know the full range of possibilities the software provided, resulting in mismatched or very simplistic lessons.

The course took three months to complete but took six more months to release due to organizational changes. We were able to get the final piece completed nine months after starting the development and the course was sent out for approval. After some minor revisions, we implemented the course for all new and existing content developers. All developers were required to go through the course and pass four knowledge checks on key course concepts.
