SME TRAINING COURSE

Process: Our team of instructional designers was tasked with creating a comprehensive onboarding course to ensure SMEs knew the standards, policies, and procedures for updating their courses. With over 1,200 SMEs to train, there was significant pressure to ensure the content was comprehensive, correct, and clear. Insufficient training would mean messy courses and a large number of frustrated SMEs, professors, and students.
I was selected to act as team lead and facilitate collaboration with the other instructional designers. We divided the course into eight major sections, covering topics like instructional design, editing, Blackboard settings, textbook updates, and media creation. Each member of the instructional design team worked on two sections of the course, contributing their expertise to assist SMEs through the transition and training. Research and studies were integrated into the course to reinforce best practices. Our team also had some fun and added a number of personal tips to help SMEs.
